Palm maps on to SD card

I want to be able to load maps onto an SD card independantly of the PDA. For example, I have a card reader on my laptop and I just want to load them in this way.
I find that I don't have much space on my PDA for the whole hotsync stuff.
Can anyone offer any practical advice on how to do this?

Sorry, I don't think it can be done. With PocketPC you seem to be able to generate the map files on the desktop PC, then move them across to the correct location on the SD card. With Palm though, it looks like the map and waypoint files get generated on the PDA during the actual hotsync process. I didn't find any files on the desktop PC that I could get working on the Palm (including trying to use maps generated for a PocketPC).

Unfortunately the only way to get Fugawi maps on a Palm seems to be to Hotsync maps to the PDA's onboard memory (if you have enough), and then either move them to the SD card using Fugawi, or send them somewhere else with Filez.
