Try holding down the reset button for 30 seconds and see if that recovers the device to a working state, make sure you know where it is though (check the book but it is near the docking connector under the unit) - I find a pin quite useful to actually go in the reset switch, certain paperclips are too large and don't actually press the switch properly - Mike
