To read my microSD card, I put it in an adapter then plug it into my SD card reader.

The problem is that I cannot write to it, it is read-only, and I want to put some custom POIs on it.

The adapter card has no slide on the side to lock/unlock it, Can anyone tell me how to make it read/write?

Funny you should say that. I realised yesterday that the nuvi 310D I got from Halfords last week couldn't recognize the SD card supplied with it.

Everytime I used the POI loader or Mapsource, the only device I could find was the nuvi internal 400 Mb.

I bought a 1Gb SD and now both POI loader and Mapsource recognize 2 devices.

So the free SD card included in the box was broken.

May be same with yours.

No this is different. I can see mine, and read the files on it. I just can't add any (even though it's only half full).

Hmm, this sounds odd as in your other post over here you say you are happily writing to this card and have successfully written Custom POI's to it through the i3. Assume therefore that you card is certainly not read-only.

What problem are you having? Is it that you just can't write to the card through your card reader? Sounds as though it's a problem with the reader/writer you are using, rather than the card.

Sorry, let me clarify. When it's in the i3, I can write to it using the POILoader etc, but if I take it out, put it in the SD card adapter, and put it in a card reader, then I can see it, read the files on it, but I cannot write to it, it is read-only.

You may be correct, I will have to try another card reader and/or adapter.

Excuse me if you think I'm pointing out the obvious but....

Are you putting the card from the i3 directly into a Micro SD (Transflash) card reader or are you putting the micro SD into and SD adaptor then into a normal SD card reader?

If it is the later check the write protect switch on the micro SD to standard SD isn't flicked across.

Apologies if you have checked this but its a possibility?

The adapter doesn't have write protect switch, but looking closely, I think it used to have one, but it's missing. Now, as it's an old one I borrowed, maybe someone broke it. I will get a new one.

Thanks for mentioning it, because I was not sure that adapters had this switch. Now I know it should, I am certain that a new adapter will fix the problem.

You may already have one, if your mobile phone uses transflash and can be attached to your PC.

That's OK. I wanted a spare card as a backup for the i3 data, and these small microSD cards are cheap AND they come with a free adapter. I actually bought a 512mb card for $35.

...and it works, I can write to the card now (using the card reader)

Thanks to all for the help.
