Hi
I use to have an iPAQ3600 with a gps jacket. For this I bought the software only version of the CoPilot v3.5. This worked fine.
Since then I've had to replace my iPAQ3600 with the iPAQ 2210. As the jacket does not fit this pda, I've invested in the Emtac bluetooth GPS unit.
Although I can get the iPAQ 2210 to connect with the Emtac, (verified using the supplied CRUX_View software), the CoPilot will not communicate at all.
Help..!!! |

Try connecting on COM8, NMEA 4800. If that doesn't work from within CoPilot, then there may be an issue where you have changed the GPS to SiRF, or changed the baud rate. Or if you purchased the CoPilot bundle with GPS sleeve, then this will be the reason because you will need to purchase the software only version of CoPilot which is unlocked for any GPS Receiver. |

Thanks for replying so quickly.
It is the "software only" version of CoPilot on CD that I've downloaded to a 128MB CF card. The gps jacket that I was using was also from CoPilot, but they were bought separately. As this combination did work with my iPAQ 3600, due you think this would have locked the software anyway?
In reply to your other suggestion, are you saying that I change the COM port and baud rate within the CoPilot software? If so, I've tried to do that, but the option is greyed out, with the setting on auto detect and I'm unable to change this.
When I'm running the CRUX_View software, the setting is COM8 and Baud 38400, and this works fine.
I can confirm that its not SiRF, but NMEA.
Does this help in trying to narrow down the reason for this problem? |

If it's grayed out, you need to go into the GPS MENU and untick RECEIVING, then goto TOOLS | OPTIONS | GPS and change the COM Port and Baud Rate, then tap OK.
After this you will need to turn the GPS Receiver back on by going into GPS MENU and ticking RECEIVING again and it should start using the new settings. |

Dave,
No joy, I'm afraid. Regardless of whether receiving is ticked or not, the COM and Baud options are greyed out and unavailable.
What I have noticed is that I can mantain a bluetooth connection with the Emtac for as long as I wish, as long as the CoPilot software is not running.
However, when I start CoPilot, the bluetooth connection between the iPAQ and the Emtac fails anytime after 20 seconds or so.
I do get the following message on the GPS->Status window:
"Need to Send ReInit signal detected"
Does this help in the diagnosis?
Appreciate you help and guidance...! |

In that case, it really does sound like you don't have the software only version, you have a version that is locked with the GPS Receiver.
The software only unlocked version basically uses a CF card that is encoded so rather than tying CoPilot to the GPS, it ties it to the supplied CF card which then allows you to use it with any GPS Receiver.
I think CoPilot was also available as a software version with the jacket but was locked to the jacket.
Did you get the jacket with 3.5 ? Or seperately ?
You might want to contact ALK in the UK, they might be able to help a little further. Although BT should work with CoPilot 3.5, it's really only become available in CoPilot Live, so there might be issues with it under 3.5. That still shouldn't gray out the com port though. |

Talked to ALK support today and discussed the matter with them. Even though I have the software only version of CoPilot 3.5 on CD, I don't have the original QuickStart CF card. They said that the software was designed to work with any NMEA gps receiver provided it was with the original quickstart CF card. So, downloading the software from CD to a different CF card, as I've had to do, wont work.
They say that I'll have to purchase the latest version, v4, from them as the only solution to the problem... unless you know of any other possibilities? |
