having just paid out for a navman iCN530 for using while im at work (driving a 17t class 2)

is there a way around the unit taking me 7.5t limits

this unit is proving totally useless to me at the moment...

today i found my going round in circles around the derby area.

can anyone help or am i just wasting my time with a satnav, and should put it down to an expensive error.

thanx for any reply/help

Stu

Hi there.
Firstly, I'm not the best person to answer your question but.

I have seen similar questions to your own on the forums, and if I am correct, the way around this is to manually create POI's then (using a paper map?) mark each height or weight restriction in the appropriate POI.

Obviously this is time consuming, but over a period of time/journeys it should start to become quite useful.

I wonder, does the DOT or Highways Agencies provide a list of such restrictions?

The best thing to do would be to have a "good look" or search something like HGV, and I think you should be able to find the other posts, from people similar to yourself (HGV driver)

Good luck

There is no current database of weight restrictions, nor do any of the sat nav products have an "Avoid POI when calculating route" so if the data were made available the very best you would achieve is a warning there is a problem ahead. The problem with this type of data is the rapid change - Mike

it you get in to situation like that the best thing to do sometimes is just to stop and look at the nav in map mode.

the navman does have an option to adjust some of the road settings so id have a play with them to get to a happy medium

At least this way when mapping a route, followed by a preview of the route, it would then be possible to use the "avoid" function to re-calculate the route avoiding certain POIs.

Yes I know it still sound long winded, but probably still quicker than just relying on paper maps for the entire journey.
