Does MM5 for smartphone support performance review like it does on PDAs?

It will allow you to see you present position on the map but very little else works, I still haven't managed to export waypoints to the mobile device, let alone get the more sophisticated options working, in fact there is no facility to record a track/ route when using the smart phone - Mike

Hi everybody!

I am new to this board. Have tried to install the "Memory-Map Pocket PC" on my smartphone, but failed.

Phone: SPV C550
Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition (Windows CE 4.21 Build 1088)
ActivSync 4.2.0 (Build 4876)

The error message is: "Memory-Map Pocket Nav OS 5.CAB failed to install on your device because the installation file is not intended for this device."

I have tried both the OS and Euro editions but with no luck. I have also checked the files in my PC. I guess only one file is relevant for the installation

MMPocketNav.PPC2K_ARM.CAB

But this file is different for the OS and Euro editions though they share the same name.

Has anything gone wrong? I would be grateful for your advice!

The problem is most likely that you are trying to install PDA software on a Smartphone.

Aren't they the same? Do they have a different version for smartphone?

I haven't used Memory Map but I have used other Smartphone programs and there are generally different versions for the two types of device. The "smartphone" version which is designed for keypad input (C550) and a PDA version which is designed for use with touch screen devices (PDAs and PDA phones). I remember that error message because I used to get it when trying to install PDA software on my C500 Smartphone.

You need MM vs5,0,6 on the PC, then the same application will load to either ppc or smart phone, its avail from the memory map web site, for once a single can do both, Mike (In the Lakes)

Thanks, Mike. I only found the MM 5.1.1 build 705. Could you please post a link here?

A little frustrated. Is the MM Nav better than GPSDash? Perhaps I should stick to GPSDash.

Memory Map is a mapping application for the PC, PPC and recently Smart Phone, you can download the application from the memory map web site, but you will need to register it to enable the advanced features (GPS etc), it will only work with there maps which can be purchased in different scales/ areas - sorry not able to post url as I am still away from the PC, although its a very different application than GPS Dash -Mike

Memory-Map V5 5.1.1 is a later version of the Memory-Map software and includes the SmartPhone client.

The reason you cannot install the software to your SmartPhone is because you are attempting to install the Pocket PC version, you can see this within the file name PPC.
