I've loaded the new version (3.30) and it looks good.
I like the image of a car in place of the pointer - very cute! Unfortunately, when exploring the new features I did not make a note of the page on Garmin's website where additional ones can be downloaded and it only seems to appear once. Could somebody post it here please? (I've had a look around their website but can't find it.) |

Having read this thread with interest, I ask myself, as a Nuvi 310 owner does it5 apply to me? I don't want to wreck my 310 by installing it, if it doesnt apply. Does anyone know the answer.

For a start, many of the features included in this update were already standard in the initial shipping software of the 310 - any that aren't should be added to the next 310 software update. |

|
|
Just updated my Nü300 to 3.30 found on this site - (why didn't Garmin email me about this update? - they always have in the past!)
Anyway, updated with no problems, then found the bit about the new vehicles.
Went to the Garmin site and followed the instructions but couldnt get them to install. After spending an hour cursing Garmin and trying everything I could think of I then noticed that they are only available for the 310 & 360!! Silly me!
What a pity, 'cos I think they're really cute! If anybody can find a way to get them on the 300 I'd be eternally grateful!
Strange thing is though that the option to change the vehicle DOES appear on the Settings/Map page! Could this mean that Garmin may be making them available for the 300/350 as well?

I know some people have had problems if they have manually applied the software update (due to not running Windows) and have not copied the initial vehicle files over. |

Thanks for reply Swing but the answer is No - I go to Settings/Map select vehicles and click on the change button but nothing happens. If I click on the + or _ buttons I get a quick flash of a dialog box saying "Drawing" but nothing appears.
I followed the instructions from the Garming site which actually unzipped the file to C:\Documents and Settings\Ken\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\8T67SP6J\Compact_green(1) --- !!! The next instruction says, ".....open your Garmin\Vehicle directory" but when I looked I didn't have one.
I then tried creating a Vehicles directory on the Garmin and putting the unzipped content in it but that doesn't work either.
If anybody has this working can you please tell what your directory structure is on your Nüvi?
Mine is now:-
Audible (Folder)
Garmin (Folder)
JPEG (Folder)
MP3 (Folder)
PictureIt (Folder)
WMPInfo.xml (File)
The Garmin Folder opens up to:-
POI (Folder)
Vehicles (Folder)
Voice (Folder)
Waypoints (Folder)
006B047800.bin (File)
006B048201.bin (File)
fs_image.ver (File)
GarminDevice.xml (File)
gmapbmap.img (File)
gmapprom.sum (File)
The Vehicles Folder opens up to:-
compact_green (Folder) - I d/loaded the green car - note underscore.
This opens up to:-
compact-green (Folder) - note hyphen.
Which finally opens up to:-
compact_green.srf (File 1,192Kb)
I strongly suspect it is this layout that's wrong and causing my problem.

I think you need to drag the "vehicles" folder onto your nuvi, so you have audible, garmin, vehicles etc. |

i believe that this just changes route settings to avoid certain roads etc - i.e. it won't send a truck down a tiny country lane. that's the idea anyway.
i saw the new vehicals on the new units at the edinburgh expo - pretty cute will have to add one when i get my new 360
would be good if they added functionality for the i3 ;)
