|
|
Hi all - can anyone help with the following problem? I have just started using Destinator PN and am finding that the turn directions are very aggravating and intrusive as they are given at 500 yards, 200 yards and at the turn itself. When this is for taking the third exit at the roundabout it becomes an almost continuous stream of instructions. Does anyone know how to delete the 500 yard instruction? Thanks for any help - Doogan. |

You have to edit \DestinatorApps\Destinator\Common\Interface\Voice\All\DestinatorVoiceManeuvers.inf on your pda.
The voice commands you don't like can be commented out with // _________________ D7

Hi - thanks for your reply. I got as far as VoiceManeuvers.inf on File Explorer but could not open it as I was then advised to open the application to get any further. Obviously I can open Destinator but do not know how to get at the file - can you help? Also I do not know how to use // to get rid of the instruction as I have very limited knowledge. Regards - Doogan. |

The way I've done any editing is to copy the file to a PC from the ActiveSync explorer window and make a copy as backup. Edit it with Notepad, then copy the edited file and backup back. If you don't like the results, renaming the backup is easy. _________________ Acer n35, Destinator 3.0.75, Destinator 6 |

Hi - thanks, I did that but when clicking on Dest...Maneuvers.inf it just brings up a Properties box. However the list of files on the page with Dest...Maneuvers.inf contains what look to me to be the files I am interested in. Among many others are '200.wav' and '500.wav'. It is the 500 yard warning I am trying to get rid of - so should I just delete 500.wav or replace it with // ? Thanks - Doogan. |

Indeed, there are much better utilities available for editing directly on a PPC/PDA that you get with the basic kit. However there are a lot more people (like me!) who are more familiar with the mouse and full size keyboard back on the PC for editing.

Windows assumes the file is an installation file because there is a .inf at the end. It's not, Destinator will use the file for its own purposes. Right click on the file, choose 'Open with...' and then Notepad from the list.
If you're not confident editing files directly or using Notepad you might need someone who can show you.
When you see the file in Notepad, you should see a number of lines which code for each of the warnings. These are the relevant ones:
::MC,ROUND_ABOUT*FIRST_DISTANCE,0,0,circle;EXIT_NUMBER;exit;3;UNITS,"Take round about xxxx exit 3/2 miles/kilometers"
::MC,ROUND_ABOUT*SECOND_DISTANCE,0,0,circle;EXIT_NUMBER;exit;500;UNITS,"Take round about xxxx exit five hundred yards/meters"
::MC,ROUND_ABOUT*THIRD_DISTANCE,0,0,circle;EXIT_NUMBER;exit;200;UNITS,"Take round about xxxx exit two hundred yards/meters"
::MC,ROUND_ABOUT*FOURTH_DISTANCE,0,0,circle;EXIT_NUMBER;exit,"Take round about xxxx exit"
These are the roundabout warnings. If you don't want the 500 yard warning, put // at the beginning of the second of these lines. Notepad has a tendency to add .txt to everything so if you 'save as' make sure the type is set to 'All files' not 'text'.
There is a known bug in the first line where it announces a roubabout in 3 miles when it's actually two. Cure this by changing the distance to 3*2 so it looks like:
::MC,ROUND_ABOUT*FIRST_DISTANCE,0,0,circle;EXIT_NUMBER;exit;3*2;UNITS,"Take round about xxxx exit 3/2 miles/kilometers"
I found the 'Continue driving around the roundabout' in circle.wav far too long. So I cut the circle.wav using wavepad to simply 'roundabout'. Again, you might need some direct help if you're not that familiar with PCs. _________________ Acer n35, Destinator 3.0.75, Destinator 6 |

Hi - thanks - but I am still failing. When I right click on the .inf file there is no option to open it at all. Only 4 or 5 options like copy etc. I tried copying it and dropping it into Notepad but it did not appear to have copied. Regards - Doogan. |

Copy it to your desktop first, then right click on it - select Open With and then select notepad - edit it, save it and then copy it back from your desktop to where is should be on your PDA.
If you right click on it on the PDA without copying it to your desktop you dont get all the options on the right click menu (at least I dont) |

Yes, could have been more explicit in previous post. Copy the file from the PDA - the explorer window you open on the PDA from Activesync is limited. But you can copy the original file to a backup version, then drag/copy the file to a temporary directory on the PC, or the desktop if you prefer. From the PC explorer or PC desktop right click to get the 'open with' option. When you've edited the file drag/copy it back to the PDA. _________________ Acer n35, Destinator 3.0.75, Destinator 6 |

Hi to all - I finally took the plunge and followed the advice you gave me - and it worked and I am finally rid of the 2 mile and 500 yard instructions. Many thanks for all the directions - great forum - Doogan. |

Hi there I would like to ask if the instructions to use the speed camera warnings, both visual and voice, are the same for Destinator 3 and the Destinator PN versions. I have been trying to get a PN version to give me the same warnings as the previous version I had which was Destinator 3 ver 3.0.75.
Can you help at all with any advice?
thanks.
