|

Does anyone know how to load a 2720 from scratch? I can get a demo 2720 unit but if the software from Garmin is to expensive it wouldn't make sense to buy the unit. Demo in this case means dummy maps are loaded.
Garmin site says you cannot buy the maps separately. I think I am
missing something about this device. What if you wanted to load EuropeBase Maps(actually that is what I want to do).
Thanks |

The 2720 comes with either all of europe loaded or the US maps loaded. I cant beleive that they would remove maps from it.
Also it comes with a CD or DVD with the maps on .Even a demo should come with those.
Its time to ask the seller what you get !

I have sent the seller email but so far no answer. I sent a query to Garmin Support as well but they need a little longer to answer so I will just have to wait. Even if I can get the unit for a cheap price if the map software is expensive it wouldn't be a good deal.
I know the 2720 doesn't have a hard drive so I guess you need to flash
load the unit. It's hard getting detail specs on the device. All the sites
want to sell me a new one.
Thanks for your reply |

The 2720 has internal memory so you load from pc .
The memory is big enough to have all of europe in it and room for personal POIs and speed camera database.
Normally a "demo" unit is one that has been on display for a while and so cant be called new but everything else including maps should be in there.
Hope this helps

You are right to be very, very careful here.
I think you need the "City Select Europe" or "City Navigator Europe" cds, v7 is the latest and v8 is due for imminent release. You need an unlock code which is used to unlock the maps against the serial number of your GPS. Be very careful buying the maps from a non authorised dealer too.
I think the only way to get it in Europe is to buy a car kit for a Etrex-C which comes with City Select. If you know anyone in America then they sell City Select there too. Just not in the EU, bizzarely.
Good luck and to the forum! _________________ Gone fishing! |
