|

Hi all,
Can someone tell me if an external antenna has to be mounted on a metallic surface as opposed to non metallic like inside the boot sitting on the carpet?
Thanks

Bryan, you will get far better reception with the aerial outside, assuming its a GPS aerial then it won't matter what its put on. Putting it inside the boot is not too good an idea though as the metal strucure of the vehicle will seriously degrade the sat signal strength.
If its a car audio aerial then that does need the ground plane and must be bolted to the structure of the vehicle - Mike |

I've got on in my Megane and it works fine on the parcel shelf. Can be dodgy in the boot.
What i would like to find is a small metal plate with an adhesive packing that i can stick to the top of my rear window and then attach the antenna with the magnet.
Any ideas? |

Not sure if this is any good for your post but what about a double sided sticky foam pad that you can buy from most large stationers and then use a large metal washer. No not the laundry kind
Just a thought not sure if it will meet your needs _________________ TomTom 300
