Hey people
Thanks for your help/replies to my earlier queries.
I now have a set up as follows :
1. HP iPAQ HX2750
2. 1GB Crucial SD Card
3. Holux Bluetooth GPSSlim 236 Receiver
4. TomTom Navigator 5 (upgraded to 5.10) with maps for GB, France and Germany.
After a lot of fiddling and reading on this forum, I have managed to get it all running, tested on a couple of short journeys, and it seems to be adequate for my use.
I hope this set up will be fine for me to use for my trip into Europe in 2 days time.
Will probably go into France, then Germany.
The questions I have are : Will the TomTom software automatically detect which country I'm in and carry on ? Or do I have to manually select a country/map ?
And can someone please recommend a simple, amplified mount, ideally with option for vent or suction, for the hx2750 ?

If one of the maps is a Plus version, select that one and you can use major roads across national boundaries. But for street level apping you need to select the relevant country map from the menu

TomTom Go 720 Europe, Navcore 8.351, Western Europe 855.2884
Satmap Active 10
Plus a lot of other PDA GPS kit, seldom used
As Robin states to use full street level mapping you will need to select this from the Change preferences->Select Map option. You can use cross border navigation using the European Major roads only if this map is installed.
For a simple to use Amplified mount why not take a look at the following product from ourselves:
