Hi,

Could anyone in Europe tell me what angle values for Elevation and Azimuth you have for PRN 120, PRN 124 and PRN 126 (satellite ID 33, 37 and 39) where you live. I'm interested in comparing with my own postion to evaluate if the accuracy is likely to be better or worse. My values for these satellites are:

PRN 120:
Elevation: 20 degrees
Azimuth: 211 degrees

PRN 124:
Elevation: 23 degrees
Azimuth: 167 degrees

PRN 126:
Elevation: 23 degrees
Azimuth: 164 degrees

I would guess that the Elevation is more important to the accuracy than the Azimuth angle. It's interesting to note how close (relatively) PRN124 and PRN126 seem to be to each other.

I have managed to get DGPS fix with PRN 120 and PRN 124 but not with PRN 126. PRN 120 is the satellite that the ESTB is running on so that should be the one to rely most on.

/Ulf

Here's your tracker, it will tell you exactly where these geostationary sats sit (over the oceans, close to the coast)

The EGNOS satellites (ARTEMIS, AOR-E and IOR-W) don't appear to be included on this webb page.

The thing is that the EGNOS reception gets worse the further north you go, since the Elevation (i.e the angle over the horizon) decreases. Due to this fact it's difficult to get a DGPS-Fix with EGNOS while on the ground - especially if you drive in a town with high buildings. The ideal reception conditions for EGNOS are reached when you're standing right under the satellite (Elevation = 90 degrees). For the AOR-E satellite (PRN120), that is currently broadcasting the ESTB signal, this occurs in West Africa. The elevation of AOR-E in the UK should be somewhere close to 30 degrees (Munich in south Germany has AOR-E Elevation 35 degrees) which should give a slightly better EGNOS performance than in my area.

I've taken a few NMEA logs in my area to evaluate the EGNOS cababilities of my GPS receiver and I've managed to get a DGPS fix with all of the three EGNOS satellites (AOR-E is of course the most reliable).
