The lights on the CoPilot GPS work like this.... (taken from ALK website)

Blue LED Light indicates the Bluetooth connection status
- Flashing every 1 second: GPS was just powered on and waiting for a connection
- Flashing every 2 seconds: GPS is connected to Pocket PC

Green LED Light indicates GPS status
- Light Constantly on: GPS was just powered on and attempting to acquire a GPS position
- Light is Flashing: GPS has acquired a GPS position

Orange/Red LED Light indicates Battery status
- Red Light Constantly on: Battery is Low
- Orange Light is Constantly on: Battery is charging
- No Light (off): Battery is fully charged

If the green light is going out completely I'd suggest the GPS unit is perhaps faulty.

Cheers
Paul

You don't need to put the receiver so it has a full view of the sky (ie on the roof) - the front or rear window will do fine. I put mine on the dash or stick it to the inside of the sunroof.

Of course, it will get a first fix faster and lock on to more sats if you put it on top of your car for a couple of minutes when it is cold starting (after being switched off for > 12 hours) but you don't have to do this.

Be aware that the GPS must "see" each satellite for 30 to 60 seconds before it can lock on to it (ie cold start), but once it has the inital lock, it can re-aquire a lock almost instantly.

This is why it's important to get a lock before you start moving. If the view of the satellite gets interrupted (by a building, tree or terrain) during the first fix it has to start the 30 to 60 second timer again.

As for the light going off on your GPS, it sounds to be like your battery might be faulty. Crying or Very sad

I think I have sorted out the satellite problem for now.

The reciever still isn't okay. I have contacted CoPilot customer support.

Any tips here would still help a lot.
