Looking for an external antenna for my Quest. Whats the difference (apart from the price), with an antenna £12 delivered on ebay to a genuine garmin £73 delivered?[/url]

I have used a Garmin external antenna with my Quest for a while now and find it well worth the money - start up time is quick as of course the Quest is looking at the total sky. However, I can't answer your question as I've not tried other antennas. The £12 eBay job could be just the same internals as the Garmin and made by the same people. But it might not be. In fact it probably isn't, but I don't know. Best I can offer is - you get what you pay for - and in this case the thing you'd certainly get if you bought the Garmin antenna is Garmin technical support if you had any questions or if anything went wrong.

Thanks. I'm sure many people would be interested. £12 is a good price. Smile

do you get the same mounts with the £12 unit?
I wonder if there are differences in power consumption?

Usually with the garmin you get both a suction mount for windows AND a magnetic mount.

Yes you do. I use the magnetic one on the roof and it's been totally secure.

Got the antenna and tried it. Works really well, It's ready to navigate in seconds and didn't lose satellite reception once today on a 40 mile trip through different roads/terrains in apalling weather. Bought two, one for the van and one for the car. Both have coated windscreens, but the car was terrible for losing the signals and getting us lost?. Thats all cured now. I bought 5 mtr lengths and will semi permanent install them by leaving the antenna in the boot ,with enough lead to stick it on the roof, and route the cable under the carpet to a convienient exit point close to where the quest is mounted!
Paid £27 for two here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5798024208&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1
