I'd like to thank everyone who has tested the new POI-Sync service and helped us iron out the file bugs. It looks like it's ready now to be released publically.
We will continue to make the manual page available for the time being and we'll then take a decision a little later whether to just have a sync service, or both.
We'll make this forum available publically to everyone so they can see any issues we've had, which will also help make it easier to resolve by searching forum messages. |

Dave
Will you still be announcing the availability of new POIs for manual download on the news page?
For me, I don't mind the downloading, unzipping, and drag and dropping process, rather than letting yet another application taking up disk space and memory.

We will, for the moment the manual page stays as is, and will be updated. Personally I think it's important to have a manual page as not everyone will want to use the sync service. We probably will enhance this page later and categorise the POI's properly into country sets and allow searching so you could easily download all the McDonald's POI's if you wanted to. |

I was good to help, and was nice being a 'Platinum' member for a while.
Is there anything else apart from 'Standard' and 'Staff', and how come 'Staff' is only 4 stars - you should really have 5 stars @ nearly 3000 posts

Yes - it was fun to have 3 stars for a while! More importantly, it was good to be able to help out with the tests.
Checking the members page, I now appear to have more posts than anyone else except staff members.
0 stars is Guest
1 star is Standard Member
2 stars is GPS Developer (four have this status)
3 stars is Platinum Member (one person, Dragon, currently has this status for whatever reason)
4 stars is Pocket GPS Staff
5 stars, I guess, is Forum Administrator - but I guess Dave chooses not to post with that status.

Oh yes, I might be the administrator, but I'm just a humble user! I was going to add many more categories, and it can be done, but it means closing the forums for a few hours which I think some would object to and a night full of heavy coding (which I'd object to).
It might come a little later though. |
