I've searched before I post this but can't find an answer. How can I store either the mapsource contents or predetermined routes onto a memoy stick etc. rather than carry the cds around. I plan on going to Eastern Europe and cannot fit all the info I would like onto the 243 mb of memory. Ideally I could carry it on a memory stick, use a pc and download the maps as I go along the route............any thoughts?.................thanks |

Officially, you have to take the CDs and install Mapsource on the PC you are using then upload the maps you want.
Unofficially, you may be able to use sendmap, check out http://gps.chrisb.org/en/download.htm These people have reverse engineered Garmin's protocols and map formats. I have never tried to use these tools - it doesn't look like they are for the faint of heart. 8O

To use SendMap you'll still have to install the Quest's USB drivers on the PC you want to use to upload the maps, which may not go down to well with the owner of the PC!
Have you considered only selecting maps which are around your route?
To do this:
Create your route in MapSource
Right click on the route in the route window (left hand pane)
Click on [Select Maps around route].
This should reduce the amount of memory required for maps in the quest and still allow you enough freedom to move away from your route (to a certain extent). |
