I own a garmin GPS 12. It appears to have stopped seeing the satillites.

I have plugged a lead into it to interface to a HP 5550 with Tom Tom. When I first fired it up the garmin presented me with a screen I have never seen before - I managed to escape from that changing nothing, I think!

I have tried firing up the Garmin several times since. It selects the searching for satelites screen but doesn't find anything. That screen has not changed over the weekend (the same sattelite numbers are shown on the screen as last week, but there is no signal strength shown.

Before I take it to bits does anyone have any suggestions? I have removed batteries, removed the lead, held it in open space on clear day, sworn at it and even told it which country it is in.

Suggestions gratefully received

You might have cleared all the data from the GPS. How long did you leave it out in open sky for? Try leaving it there for 15-60 minutes and see if it get's it's fix back again.

If that fails then contact Garmin. They do a fixed fee repair service for their GPS units.

Thanks Skippy

As I have a long jprney inthe car daily I took advantage. It turned itself of everal times and I told it twice which country it was in.

Eventually I selected "Autolocate" and 10 minutes later hey presto back to normal.

Thanks again. Wouldn't have tried leaving it on that long otherwise
