I have just returned from a round trip of about 1500 miles towing a largish caravan. we routed up the east coast to a site called morwenna almost on the north scottish coast. Since my trip last year to St. Ives ( first using GPS) I am now even more in the camp that I wouldn't even go down the street without my sat nav. It really was quite amazing to be driving remote single track roads in the northern highlands to see them neatly layed out ahead on the HP2210 screen.

Have also played with road speeds to stop tt2 diverting me down silly little roads or off motorways to cut across a congested area to rejoin the same motorway!. Some improvements by doing this but not perfect. I now routinely revue the TT2 proposed route with my trusty atlas just to be sure, as U turns with a van on the back can be tricky!

My heartfelt thanks to the person who has plotted all the caravan club sites into a POI file. My pre trip planning consisted of take me from one site to the next. How long and how far. Worked perfectly. It would also be very re-assuring to have the current destination on screen somewhere as I find myself re prograsmming just to make sure its taking me to the right place!

Can't decide if I shouild upgrade to TT3 as I hear of all sorts of problems with the HP2210.

Wouldn't a non reflective screen be great especially as I am using the winscreen sucker mount which makes the 2210 a bit susceptable to glare.

the problems with tt3 only really occur with the updates if you install just off the disc tt3 should be ok on the 2210 i thinkn its mainly the updated gps driver that causes the problems ie it locks up

What Alix says is quite right - though the upgrade CDs all contain Navigator 3 3.01 which seems to be more likely to lock up than 3.00 on troublesome hardware.

Hiding POI in the Navigator screen seems to help a lot. Navigator 3 3.00 can't really be recommended; there were quite a few bugs fixed in 3.01.

If you want to use TomTom Traffic, you'll land up with Navigator 3 3.02T installed.

I'm envious of Tom Tom's adaptability.
I have the Aldi Medion package which as I understand can not be tweaked to prefer major routes and tour with an 18 foot van, I ended up down an unsurfaced, overgrown lane the other day (thankfully without the caravan).
Unless anyone can give me some ideas on how to use it more successfully I may have to try for a refund and then buy a more suitable product.
Ideas anyone?

I've got the TTgo 300 which was bought for use with my caravan and it did well during the half term trip to Devon, however, whilst there it did take us down some very narrow tracks which were short cuts between main roads, thankfuly we did not have the van hitched up. What settings are you using to try to avoid this happening when towing.

many thanks Paul

I've got the PDA version of TomTom and the great thing with it is that I can check and plan the route before hand and set up an itinerary and thus ensure that I avoid and such lanes and roads that may be unsuitable. I'm not sure if the same can be done with TomTom Go as I don't have any experience of using it.

One suggestion that I've heard recommended may be to make adjustments in the properties section so that your speed settings are adjusted right down for lower classified roads. By doing this, TomTom will be looking for the quickest route and so these slow roads will become less appealing for them to plot into the route.

Hope this helps.
