I have copilot software as well as the emtac bluetooth gps receiver. My problem is that I cant get it to find the gps, in the gps options menu the user settings option is greyed out and I can't select it, I know the gps unit works as I use it with Memory Map Navigator with no problems on com port 8. My pocket pc is an IPAQ 3870.
Any help appreciated

Martin,
The problem you are experiencing is that the Co-pilot software is tied to thier own hardware at the moment. This means that if you try to use anything other than the Co-Pilot CF or Sleeve GPS devices the software will not work. _________________ Mike Barrett |

But domlof here on the forum stated that he is using Copilot like that. Also you can buy a software only version as well according to the website.

Sorry that is of course true you can buy the software only version and I assume that is what Domlof is using. This has only recently been available, and I believe still requires a "dongle" for it to work. _________________ Mike Barrett |

Thats right
I have a 'software' only version, which actually requires the 128M CF card to be slotted in place before it will allow you to use the Emtac BT.

Xair,
If you bought both from Premier Electronics, then they should have sent you the correct version.
Did you get either a CF card or SD card with co-pilot and are you using that, or are you using your own memory card and copying maps from your PC? _________________ Mike Barrett |

MikeB,
The version I received was with CF card, which I could not use so I phoned premier and explained he replied that I could copy the CF card to SD card which I did, then reinstalled but this did not work, the program worked but I could not config for the emtac GPS also on the cd was a folder which was named CF card which looked the same as what was on the CF card so I copied that to SD cards then reinstalled but still no joys.

This poses an interesting question. I want to purchase Co-Pilot for pan-european use. Well actually more like going to holland, spain and italy...
If even in the software only version you have to use the supplied CF card (only 128Mb), how is it going to be possible to store all the maps? _________________ http://www.oooia.com |

I may be wrong here, but I think the supplied CF card has some special code/feature to uniquely identify it to co-pilot, this would mean that copying the data would not copy the protection features. Co-pilot would then not authenticate it, stopping the system from working. _________________ Mike Barrett |

I don't know about this specific product, but I know that some CF cards contain a unique hardware serial number that cannot be changed, and some other software developers I know tie their application to that number. That would tie in with MikeB's comments above. |

Mike B, trafcam,
Your very much correct, I eventually got in touch with team warrior and he confirmed your findings, copy protection on the cf card. So I have 3 alternatives wait for version 4 and upgrade, get a cf jacket or change software. Any body recomend any good software that works well in conjunction with the emtac bt gps?
thanks for help

You don't actually need any software on the CF card. It just needs to be in place for CoPilot 3.5 to work.
So you could copy all your maps and the CoPilot data onto the SD card, and as long as the CF card was attached it will work (I have tried this).
The only thing I would say about this, is that SD is slower than CF, so you may find that CoPilot is slightly slower as a result.
This is fine if you have a CF jacket to use while you wait for version 4.0. Which you should get for free if it is released within the next couple of months. |

In terms of reconmending alternative software I would say that TomTom is the best if you do not mind not having live traffic updates with auto re-route. This does work with the Emtac and the naked Ipaq |
