Something weird happening with my Garmin GPSmap 276CX.

I load the UK database with POI loader, express settings - but I'm not alerted to the cameras.

The camera database is in /garmin/poi as uk.gpi

On the device, the database is there under points/proximity. Proximity alarm is set to on.

If I look at an individual camera, on the device under points/extras, then for example E-GATSO11261 show alarm 0.3mi, alarm above 30mph.

Camera E-Mobile17500 shows alarm range 0.4mi, alarm above 40mph.

Any ideas?

I'm not familiar with the 276CX, but if you built the .GPI file and it had associated audio in a format the 276CX doesn't support, it might do this - though defaulting to a 'bong' is more likely.

I take it that audio in general, does work on the device (my original Zumo 346 was mute from day 1)

(Does it have individual volume controls for different types of audio - a 'Mixer' setting?)

Garmin POILoader requires the SOX file to produce spoken alerts using WAV files.

Read my 'spoon feed ' thread in the Garmin area.

I don't use the audio alerts (I use the device on a motorbike) but my other devices alert via the screen (either in a pop up or on a banner) but I'm not seeing any kind of alert, audio or visual.

If it's not generating any kind of alert...

perhaps try to create a much simpler .GPI file (just one point, in .CSV format)

Code:

Format: longitude,latitude,Name,Comment

e.g.

-1.772299,53.622208,TestPoint,TestAlert

and then use the 'GPS simulator' to simulate rides past the point you've chosen. I'm assuming the 276CX has that feature.

(Something's stirring in my memory, that you need at least 2 points in a .csv file for them to work - but even if true, it was many versions of POILoader ago and may not still apply)

From memory there's a setting to turn on alerts for POIs? Been a while since I've used a Garmin so can't be any more specific than that...

Also if Garmin decides you're too far under the speed alert then it simply won't show anything.

I'm just downloading the PW speed camera database, which is a CSV - I think the just contains the data you mentioned
