Posted: Tue Nov 05, 2013 1:07 pm Post subject: Important Customer Security Announcement |
|
|
This morning we became aware of a possible breach of our forum user/subscriber email database. A number of our customers have reported receiving spam phishing emails, sent to email addresses that were only used to register on our site. Consequently we suspect our email database may have been compromised.
We are working urgently to identify the source of this breach. We only store Name, User-Name and Email Addresses on our server. We DO NOT store any financial payment information or other personal data. Whilst we proceed with our investigations, we would recommend that you change your passwords for PocketGPSWorld and any other website where you may have used the same user ID and password combination.
Cyber attacks are, unfortunately, a sad reality of any on-line business, the higher the profile of a web-site, the more you become a target for those intent on doing you harm. We take these matters seriously, and will do our utmost to prevent this from happening again.
In the meantime I would like to post a sincere apology to all our customers, your trust in our company, and our services, is highly valued and we very much regret any inconvenience this may cause you. _________________ Darren Griffin

I have just been charged again via PayPal £14.99 even though I have a subscription that expires in 2034. This was extended subs was taken out 21.10.2012 and I have the email which confirms.
How do I get my money back?
Thanks |

We were updating the sites, we did post to Twitter and FaceBook that the PocketGPSWorld.com and CamerAlert.com would be offline for maintenance for a while. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Not very easy for us to give status updates in any other way when the site is down.
You don't even need to join Twitter to check and see if we have posted any announcements. _________________ Darren Griffin |

No they were hashed, but even that isn't any guarantee these days. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I am appalled with the lax way you have handled this serious breach of your security. Why have you not informed ALL of your subscribers with a personal e-mail. Many will not receive or read the news letter or go to the main page. Why do you not have a bold banner on all of the forums and the download pages so there is a chance that ALL of your subscribers stand a chance of receiving this information. 1/10 for your handling of this serious situation I am afraid. _________________ Garmin Drive 51LMT-S EU
