Went to TomTom Home this morning and was offered a new upgrade to my GO940 application V9.054.531676.1.
Downloaded it and then everything went kaput. It is definitely a newer version of the TomTom app and I quite like it except it has broken my Live Services - whenever I try and use Weather or Buddies or Google Search I get an Sim Error 1008.
Not sure if it just my unit that is playing up or whether there is a problem with the upgrade. Anyone else upgraded and having problems or not as the case may be?? |
Yes, me too - stupidly I accepted a new application via Home for my 540 Live, only to find that virtually all of the Live services now come up with sim card problem, and error 1008. This includes traffic info, although strangely when docked in Home everything works just fine, it's only when it is undocked that Lives ceases to work.
Have raised a question with TT yesterday, but nothing so far. That's a pain since we are off on holiday tomorrow.
I will try to restore the previous backup - fortunately I didn't back up the new version so I assume it should still be there.
I should know by now that accepting a TT update is fraught with danger! |

Might be worth posting a news item on the homepage to try to stop people updating at the moment?

Sensible suggestion!
I've just restored 8.371 and it's working fine.
Why do TT do this?? The new application looks very good, with a nicer appearance and new features - but then they go and spoil it by (I assume) not testing it properly before release. |

Does anyone want to try a few things to fix it?
You need to be confident in manually installing a Navcore from a downloaded cab file. I can't test this as I don't have a 940 so all at your own risk, make sure you have a backup you can revert to.
Download 9.054 from here which is for the XL LIVE and has no issues with LIVE connectivity
Now manually install over the top of a x40 that has already been upgraded to 9.054
Post back and let me know if it works for LIVE services or not. There is a possibility we may be able to cobble together a working Navcore from the two releases - it is either the ttsystem file that is at fault or the drivers in the bin folder or one of the files in the root of the device (just need to narrow it down a bit). Then again if it doesn't work either then you are a bit stuck until TT fix it.
Please don't bother doing this if you aren't confident in what you are doing and have experience of manually installing Navcores from cab files. |

Your scheme is a bit beyond my abilities for now Andy, but thanks for the offer all the same. Since I have got Live going with the previous application I'm going to stick with it for now and wait for TT - or you! - to come up with a fix. |

Problem is I don't have a 940 so can't test a fix, and the only willing experimenter I know doesn't have a LIVE subscription at the moment. |

A bit odd this one as the 940 Navcore works absolutely fine on the XL LIVE even after a full reset.
I need to investigate further ....... |

I would have volunteered to try that, but I think I have now gone too far in trying to fix my 950LIVE.

Yes, there is and it has completely bricked my device.
I have tried using a backup but there must still be something there which needs removal.
1. I can only get two UK Voices - neither of them computer voices.
2. One female US voice is available and that works, but I don't really want that.
3. Many of the icons are greyed out..
I have tried to replace the application with older backups, but with no effect.
My question is, can I format the whole device and a start from scratch? Sounds extreme, but I am capable of trying, if someone can assure me it is possible. _________________ Gee-Pee

Reports on other forums are that a couple of resets to factory settings fixes it.
This is exactly what I had to do on the XL LIVE when Nav9 first came out for that - LIVE Services kept dropping after a few seconds until I did a few factory resets.
I can't see any difference in the files in the two releases (XL LIVE and 940) and both work fine on my XL LIVE.
Has anyone tried deleting the SIMCARD folder off of the device so that it gets recreated on boot up?
Beyond that you will have to wait for TT to respond ........... |

Have tried one factory reset, so I suppose I could try again and see what happens, before the more extreme action. _________________ Gee-Pee
