|
|
Hi guys,
This is obviously a Mac problem (aren't they all?) but I am only getting a copy of the Help page when I try to download the latest UK consolidated database for Garmin POI loader using Safari, the only browser I have.
I am on Catalina v. 10.15.7
Help needed before I get nicked for being naughty...or inattentive!
Best regards, Brian
PS I should add that the last database download I did (in June 21) worked perfectly and installed on my new Zumo XT without problem. But obviously, it's out of date... |

I'm not a Mac user, but this problem has cropped up before.
Does the post, Here, help at all? _________________ Richard

Hi and thanks for the response.
Not really! I had seen that old post and tried to solve it but this issue is slightly different and has only happened in the last month or so and I have been using the Mac for donkey's years.
I could understand the if the download didn't work but it does, it just seems to download the wrong thing, the Need Help page rather than the database.
I'm well confused. Brian |

Actually, that isn't the post I had tried (too many tabs open on the iPad )
Although that was on a TomTom, I'll try it without the XT connected and see what happens. I'm sure it wasn't connected but now can't be sure...
More anon. Brian
Nope, still the same. All I get when I try to download the database is the Need Help page.
Thanks for the suggestion. Brian |

That sounds like a misdirect.
The database downloads are all done via modules.
Is there any other browser a Mac can use ? _________________ DashCam:

MacOS Monterey here although a Chrome user.
I've checked in Safari and see the same issue as you are. For some reason it just downloads the html file instead of the compressed zip - I have no idea why! (actually, I think I worked it out - see further down!) However, on the download page there will be some text that says:
If your download does not automatically start: Right-click & 'save as': Download pgpsw-speed-cams-xxxx-(19-113).zip
Right click (or CTRL + click) on the link and choose 'Download linked file'. This will download the zip file.
It may also be worth checking your settings in Safari. The default is to open 'safe' files after downloading. Go to Safari - Preferences - General and at the bottom untick the option to open 'safe' files after downloading.
This then downloads the zip file and you can manually open it and get ALL the contents. For some reason, Safari doesn't extract the contents properly.
However, if you do change this, it will affect ALL downloaded files - so if you do want to open up, for example, PDFs as soon as they're downloaded then use the right-click option instead. |

Turns out it's Safari trying to be clever and extracting zip files when downloaded - although it fails to do it properly.

Yes - Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Opera etc. |
