|
|
I have discovered an oddity on the Drive models.
Often I will set up a route, using specific locations in order to go the way I want, rather than let the SatNav choose. I recently discovered that if I set the locations (which I have stored in a custom "Routing" POI file) as Via points, then all is well but if, in Trip Planner I change them to shaping points, then often the SatNav will move them to another, nearby location, which may not even be on the same road!
As an example, I wanted to travel from Mannings Heath (south of Horsham) to Charlwood, via the M23. I set two via points. The Black Swan pub at Pease Pottage (to force my route up Grouse Road) and the Gatwick Spur off the M23. This worked fine until I changed them from Vias to Shaping points. After that, the Black Swan point moved over onto the A23, just before the start of the M23 and my route went from Mannings Heath, south on the A281, across though Lower Beeding to Handcross and up the A23, completely missing The Black Swan!
This behaviour does NOT occur on the Nuvi 2599 but does on both my DriveSmart 50 and DriveSmart 51. Has anyone else seen this? _________________ ... Joe

Strange, I have a DS50 and haven't seen that issue. Only thing I can think of that may cause it is if the map was different, maybe a route created on an earlier map version then the change made on the current map? _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

No, I created the route in Trip Planner on the DS50/51, then (before saving) I did a "back" and clicked on the intermediate points to change them to shaping points. After clicking "Next", the points had moved and the route changed. Same on both the DS50 and DS51 but not on the 2599.🤔 _________________ ... Joe

You might try a master reset to see if that resolves it. I'll try duplicating that behaviour later though on my DS50, but am heading out right now to help marshal a tri-athlon. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

OK, tried that and I get the same result, so it certainly seems like a bug. Interestingly when you convert them back to viapoints they remain where the moved shaping points were. Convert them again to shaping points and they move again.
Worth contacting Garmin on this. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

I passed this on to a contact of mine in Garmin, who contacted their automotive department who said if they get more reports they'll look into it! I've emailed product support but would probably help if you, or anyone else with a Drive model, does the same. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Thanks, Suss. Do you have an email for product support.

Great, I've just sent in screenshots and a route at their request so hopefully it'll be fixed at some point. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

They've tested it and can't reproduce it, so have asked for a video which I've now made and sent in. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Wow! I'm glad they haven't asked me for that. _________________ ... Joe

Depends what sort of video Suss has sent in
I must admit, I had loads of problems using Basecamp so I use Mappoint, now obsolete, to do my routing and shaping. It just works so much better.
Basecamp isn't user friendly for me. _________________ DashCam:
