New Garmin

I'm after a new Garmin with Live Traffic........but trying to find one which has built in sim......anybody know which if any models have built in sim

I know the tom tom range is the 5000 6000 models etc which i might consider but they involve 1 or 2 more screen swipes than my old go live 820 to get certain routes or request

You need one that the model number ends with LMT-D.
Digital Traffic. Aerial is the power lead. No other device needed.

Assuming you are in UK.

having used both tomtom and currently using a built-in Garmin. tomtom is better for traffic avoidance and a-b navigation. if possible id sticks to tomtom. the only thing Garmin is better at is 3rd party poi warnings. if the new tomtoms are no good to you what about a used nav 3 like the go 1005 live?

If you want to load the PGPSW cameras then it will almost certainly need to be a Garmin.

If you stick with TT then you will be faced with their camera database which has been reported to often be circa 6 months+ out of date with new and removed cameras.

I find Garmin digital traffic OK (certainly far far better than RDS traffic) but I don't use mine for navigation.

My 2p:

Garmin for showing POIs (including PGPSW cameras) on screen
TomTom for traffic and better (IMHO) routing.

You can apparently load third party POIs onto a modern TomTom via MyDrive so that you can navigate to those POIs but they won't show on the screen.

TomTom's own camera database is best avoided and you should use the PGPSW one instead. I run CamerAlert on a smart phone and have got used to not having POIs on the screen.

My daily use setup is TomTom GO Mobile on iPhone with CamerAlert running in the background. TomTom GO Mobile is even less developed than the current TomTom PND range and doesn't have a fully functioning MyDrive so you can't load POIs. However this can be overcome by using an iOS app called POIViewer (only a few £s, but worth it) by French Kiss Development which allows me to navigate to any of my third party POIs using TomTom GO Mobile.

My Holiday set up is as above but in addition with a Garmin 770 showing the icons of the POIs. Side by side, TomTom traffic and routing beats the Garmin.

Which Garmin traffic though? Their current 'digital traffic' is superb, works in France too. Their older analogue traffic was pretty rubbish but was only as good as the stuff it received, the old GIGO problem.

As for routing we're all different. I switch off traffic trends as while that may be useful in bigger cities/rush hour it does seem to produce some weird routing. With it off I rarely have issues.

@Privateer on android you can link go with mydrive and it does work.

I have two accounts one for my pnd and one for my mobile.

so you can get your poi's on the go app and navigate to them
