Users with gmapdem, beware. This version deletes the gmapdem disc image file (but not the sum file); make sure that you have a backup ready. _________________ Dabri.

Very few devices have that file, I suspect those that do are well used to it being deleted. It's a reminder though that we should all back up our devices before we update, I do it for every device and not just my Garmins. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way.

Just updated my 3598.
Took about half an hour.
Booting takes more than 30s
Front screen finally appears.
Freezes when "Where To" and "Maps" is pressed.
Does not go to the next screen - just hangs.
Nothing happens.
Currently trying to reinstall map via option on Garmin Express.
Thanks sussamb, to my great relief the reinstall worked.
However, as MichaelCahill mentions above, in my case the gmapdem disc image file was also missing and I had to copy it from my backup.
Maybe if it is replaced or not depends on which Garmin server the update comes from?

I updated this evening, not without traumas. Once the maps and new software were installed the unit kept freezing after I had gone through the calibration process. I was asked to accept the massive ELUA but it froze at that point. I had to cold start several times before I was able to proceed.
Then I found I had lost my favourites for the first time in years. Not critical but annoying. I now find that the previous very clear speed limit sign has been replaced by a less distinct rectangle with, subjectively smaller numbers. If it ain't broke then don't fix it!
Grrrrr
