Not a very good leader to be totally 'Lost'....amazing, was this a formally organised walk by Ramblers....if so, a complaint would be the order of the day. |

Maybe it is or the unit I saw, but the display looks *incredibly* washed out on the Active 10 unit. For example, I could not really see the contour lines clearly at all once at the 1:25K level.
Very very weird.
Kind of makes me think it is not such a useful tool as I had hoped.
Anyone else think that ?

Sounds like you had the sun filter turned on (which removes fine detail to make major features more readable in strong sunlight). |

thanks, yes, that does make things less of a problem: however, it is still not as bright/clear (even if I set to 100% brightness) as I would expect. Perhaps spoiled by more modern style phones/iPad displays :-(
Wonder if they are planning to refresh the screen tech.... |

Maybe ... the Etrex 20/30 screen is a delight to use, readable through bright sunlight to dull light  |

| Never had a problem viewing the screen and its details. Ref: Etrex 20/30 - had a look at these once and the screen may be clear to see but it's only the size of a postage stamp and far too small to be of much use despite what others may say. Even though I have had a Satmap for a couple of years and it may be due an update if I was buying today it would still be a Satmap, especially with some of the deals available that include maps. |

Quite a bit bigger than a postage stamp, although I accept not as large as some, including Satmap. Not sure what you mean though by 'too small to be of much use'. I use mine for caching and hiking and it's ample big enough, so much so that my map stays in my rucksack these days, only there in case I lose my GPS  |

Someone asked about route planning for Satmap.
Xpedition is very good.
I also like www.bikehike.co.uk This is free and the elevation data is retained on route exports to your Satmap using SatSYNC software from Satmap. |
