If so, then Tick the option to Switch off when external power is lost. _________________ Richard

If you only have 3 pages of Change Preferences Menus, go to the last page and Select Show ALL menu options and Continue.
Battery saving should then appear on Page 6 of 7. _________________ Richard

The One 3rd Edition only has 5 pages on Change Preferences. To find Battery Saving Preferences, first go to Page 4 then Brightness Preferences. You then choose day and night brightness, press done and you get the batttery options. |

I'm getting a bit peed off with this Tomtom rubbish. After the previous trouble I had with the corrupted file in the SdkRegistry which wouldn't allow me to delete the folder, resulting in a format and reinstall.
Today I connected up to Tomtom Home to check for latest updates and it told me I needed the Application.... despite already having it. Anyway I dowloaded it and when it was installing it got as far as copying the system file when it said the "F:/system file not present" and ended the installation.
On checking the system file it had 0 kb as content so it must be empty? I then went to copy the backup system file to replace it but the bloody thing would not copy due to some I/O Device fault.
I then went to switch on the Tomtom and it just flashes the nasty red cross at me and that's it. Time to reformat the drive again then? Yes you'd think but no the bloody computer says the drive cannot be deleted?
What the hell is going on and how do I get this useless product repaired? Tried emailing Tomtom, typed the email on the online help, press send and then it says the email needs a value and leaves you with blank fields? What a croc of ????. |

In the morning give them a ring on 0845 161 0009 and see what they offer, alternately if the device is a recent purchase take it back to where you bought it for a replacement - Mike |

UPDATE:
Boxed it back up whilst swearing, went and had a cuppa and slowly calmed down.
Just got it back out the box, connected up to PC and it has now formatted properly? Now reinstalling from backup.
Is there a problem with TomTom Home causing problems? |

For back ups and installation of custom voices, POI and warning sounds I use Windows Explorer - Mike |

This only gives me an option to turn off the screen, not turn off the actual unit. Any suggestions? |

Can you and mikeshe compare notes? Are you both on the same model and software version? 'cos this is getting REALLY confusing!
Apart from your issue, does everyone agree with this summary I've made from all the posts so far?
Quote: | Auto-off settings on different machines:
x20 series
Change preferences / Page 7 of 8 / Battery Saving Preferences / Choose never turn display off etc. and press Done / Then tick "switch off when external power is lost" on next screen
x10 series
Same but page 6 of 7?
One 3rd Edition
Change Preferences. / Page 4 of 5 / Brightness Preferences / Choose day and night brightness, press done / Choose never turn display off etc. and press Done / but then DOES NOT HAVE the next option page.
One XL
Change preferences / Page 3 of 7 / Battery saving preferences / Choose never turn display off etc. and press Done / Then tick "switch off when external power is lost" on next screen |
What about the other models?
EDIT - Now confirmed that ONE 3rd Edition does have battery preferences but does NOT have the "switch off when external power removed" option screen. List above altered to reflect this.
