|
|
Hi
Just got my first Sat Nav, a Garmin StreetPilot i3.
When I turned it on and completed the set up I went to view map and it shows a completley different position to where I am. I am in Reading, and the device says I'm in North London!! Also, after over ten mins it still said "locating satelitte".
Any advice for a beginner would be most welcome.
Thanks
Matt |

Welcome to the forum, your device will need some time to acquire its position for the first time it is used, make sure you are outside with a clear view of the sky (this makes it easier and less time consuming) - if your vehicle has a heat reflective windscreen this to will affect the duration taken to acquire the sat position fix. Once you attained the first fix subsequent lock ons should be faster (my i3 typically takes 30 seconds - when stationary, DO NOT DRIVE AROUND WITHOUT A POSITION FIX, this simply makes it even more difficult for the device to compute where you are) - Mike
Edit once Mike Alder - Must stop typing using the shift key - double letters removed

the i3 has been known to take up to 15 days* to get it's first satellite fix on a new unit. however, on average, this usually takes anywhere from 10-30 minutes.

That's OK, mate. Research shows that 95.6% of all statistics are made up! _________________ Gone fishing! |
