Audi - all models 2001 onwards
The solution to this problem is to use a re-radiating antenna which will retransmit the GPS signal inside the car.
my 2001 and 2003 audi a4 work just fine.... |

New Ford Fusion with heated windscreen causes no problems at all with Emtac BT GPS. Even works very well in the storage compartment above the CD player. |

Audi A8, 97P, with 'Solar Pack' (solar sunroof, shielded glass) - no reception without external antenna or RRA. One of our subscribers reports that he has an A8 without the special glass and his Handspring Visor + Magellan companion is fine.
Renault Clio 172 - heat-reflecting glass, no signal without RRA.
2000 Audi TT Roadster - signal is fine but a suction cup mount will fit either in top left or top right corner of screen. Screen is too dished for it to go in the center. I use the vent mount that came with my Navman GPS1000 in this car.
1986 Audi Coupe quattro - fine with anything I tested (GPS 3000, GPS 1000, Pretec CF GPS, Garmin handheld).
1975 Vauxhall HP Firenza - fine.

2001 Audi TT Roadster
Ipaq 3870
Navman 3000
Usually 4 sats and droppping out quite frequently. Not much better with the top down and also just walking along the road ! Suspect the Navman from all that I've read across the forums. Frustrating as it's all good when it works ! |

The 'All models' comment for the Audi, definately doesn't apply. I have a 2002 'Allroad' A6, and have had no problems with a variety of receivers.

Peugeot 307 SW 2002 (with the BIG sunroof)
I returned a Navman jacket which just would not get a fix at all in this car.
I suspect that the glass roof is also treated as holding it up there has no effect.
That said, a GlobalSat BT308 and Garmin Etrex legend both get a fix in the same car. |

Peugeot 206cc (Convertible)
Coated Front Screen (Has clear slots at top of screen) but still poor reception there,
No Signal at all under Windscreen,
Under plastic Vent on Bonnet reliable reception,
Will hold a poor signal under windscreen but only if you get a lock first with the antenna on the roof or with the roof down, then quickly move it inside!

New Megane Dynamique (no heat reflecting windshield) - no signal reduction compared to holding receiver outside car.
New Megane Privilege (has heat reflective windshield that is climate pack option for Dynamique) - signal reduced, but satellites still detected. However, there is a windscreen section next to the rearview mirror where there is no signal reduction. (Or you can put the receiver up by the sunroof - again no reduction).
New Audi A3 (2.0TDI SE) - no signal reduction.
Equipment - Tom Tom version 2, IPaq 3950. |
