Just lost my 510 from the bike at about 80'ish. Didn't figure it was worth going back for at that speed. Mine was the European edition. If I buy a second hand UK only 520, will I be able to load all of my maps onto it or will I have to look for a 510? _________________ Navman iCN 520 |

I don't think the 510 maps will work on the 520. Generally new maps will work on old devices but not vice versa. _________________ Tim |

Hi I came across a similar question before.
What I read was that it can be done but you will have V3 maps on a separate SD card. You cannot run both at the same time, V3 & V3.5.
I have run my US V3 maps on my updated 510 and that works.
If you want this evening after work I will put some V3 maps (UK) on an SD card & tell you if it works.
Regards

How much would you pay for a 2nd hand 520 with European maps?
If you're quick you could upgrade to the N20 from Costco, if you're a member of know someone - offer finishes tomorrow. See this thread...

Yours will work because the 510 was designed for V3 maps, despite it being updated for use with the V3.5 ones. The 520 on the other hand wasn't designed for use with the V3 maps. My updated 635 can see both V3 and V3.5 maps, too, although not at the same time.
You don't even need them on different cards - you just can't enable both types at the same time. _________________ Tim |

Hi Tim
When I upgraded, it was a total reload that was performed. Everything removed from the iCN and the PC then the new purchased software from Nvman installed. The box states. SmartST 2005 for iCN 510 & iCN 520 – Pan Euro. Not an upgrade.
I would assume that with Navman software removed, all that remains is windows CE as on a PDA. I am no computer expert but Navman software is only a program running on top of windows CE, as with all GPS transportable units
It may take a little longer, but a friend has a 520 so I will try it out on theirs.
Regards

Thanks guys..........I want to stick with the 510/520 because my bike is set up for it.It didn't fall off the bike, I took it off when the heavens opened and stuffed it into my jackect whilst on the move. Well, no guesses for what happened when I went to retrieve it having stopped for a break. I like the 510/520 because I can slip it into my jacket pocket when biking and it has taken me around Euope biking many times without any problems at all.I'd pay about £100 for a 520 if I can stick my European maps onto a seperate card. _________________ Navman iCN 520 |

I notice that there are several on Ebay - a few finishing within a couple of hours at a little over £100....
This one particularly caught my eye as he lists all the maps installed including Poland, CZ, Croatia, Bugaria - in fact just about all the Ex-Eastern bloc countries... Where did he get them?
See

Yes I'm watching eBay. I'll watch it for awhile to see the sort of prices paid before I commit. _________________ Navman iCN 520 |

Does anyone know where one can get Eastern European maps for the Navman . I've been trying for some time and it would greatly ease my work. _________________ Gee-Pee

Total upgrade or not, it's the hardware which counts. _________________ Tim |

I do not fully comprehend in what you quote.
So what is the hard ware difference between a 510 & 520?
As the only thing that I see different is the night time illumination.
