Hi,
Please forgive me for asking basic questions, I have read the posts but seem more confused .
I have recently bought a tom tom go and have a few questions.
1.I have read that updates for safety cameras are available soon, where do I get them from and how much are they?will the TTG bleep or something hen passing one?. Are any other updates available ( mine is version 4 )
2. I tried adding the european mapping from my pc cdrom to the TTG but it says my card is full, do I need another bigger card ? could I get one from say Pc world or ebay?
3. I haver read about new covers but cannot find them anywhere , any ideas and do they protect the screen? If not any ideas on a screen protector, I still have the sticky plastic on mine.
Many thanks for any help

1) Usually you need to load seperate software such as CheckPOInt. The camera database is a list of POIs and the software checks for POIs and plays a given wav file when approaching/ passing. I assume this is similar for TTGo
2) TT is usually supplied with a 128 Meg card, as the GB maps are just over 100 Meg. Depending what maps you want to add, France is 233 Meg for example, dictates the total size of the card required - remembering that you never get 128 Meg from a 128 Meg card, more like 122 Meg. I have found the best value for Memory cards e-bay, look for buzzlghtyrby - highly recommended! The alternative is to install maps on a seperate card and chage cards when you cross the borders....
3) Pass

Where do I find the correct version of checkPOInt and how do I load it to the TTGo.
Also, I have placed the safety camera database in the map directory but can't activate them.
Cannot seem to find anything using search so begging for a bit of help here
Thanks in Advance

The Custom POI software is not available yet. This should be released soon. You will need to download and install an update from TomTom, In the mean time click here for our article on POIs. This includes warning alerts when approaching POIs.
To use the Maps of Europe you need to buy another SD card. A 128MB one will be big enough, or you could spend a little more and get a 256MB card. With a 256 you can fit both UK and MRE on the same card, and still have a backup on the original SD card. You will need to install the application and both mapsets from the CD that came with GO. You will also need to install any application updates.
As far as the changeable covers are concerned. The capability is there, but they are not yet available. _________________ Mike Barrett |

Cherz, I think the 'covers' in question were the user replaceable face plates, TomTom originally announced that a whole range of colours and styles i.e. Carbon Fibre, Wood Effect etc would be available. I haven't seen these on sale and suspect they may have quitely dropped the idea.

Their not on sale yet
They won't be available until late Autumn
bestyman,
My team of drivers all use the TT Go, and use a stylus instead of their fingers, to prevent marking the screen. A small piece of velcro on the top of the Go mount, and another stuck on the stylus keeps it in place when not needed. |
