iGo, MyGuide, OnCourse Navigator 6, Binatone, Alpine Instructions

Downloading the Pocket GPS Safety Camera Database

  1. Download from Pocket GPS Safety Camera Database page.
  2. Login to PocketGPSWorld.Com and goto the Safety Camera Download page.
  3. Select SatNav System iGO 2006, MyGuide or OnCourse Navigator 6 , choose Continue then choose the database version you wish to use.

 

Extracting the Database on the PC

  1. Extract the ZIP file contents to a directory on your PC, e.g. C:\temp
    • In Windows XP right-click the .zip file and select "Extract Files Here..." or use a program such as WinZip or WinRar to extract the files


Installing Pocket GPS Safety Camera Database

Please ensure that if you are using a Pocket PC version of the navigation software that you exit the program before continuing.

 

NB: The Alpine W92xR series have a bug in the firmware whereby it may take 10 or more attempts to install fully! Please see this forum post for information.

 

  1. Alpine only: Press the 'RESET' button (bottom of the device) then press and hold both the 'POWER' and 'UP' (on the circle) keys until 'USB Update Mode' appears on the screen.
  2. Connect unit to PC (may require installation of Active Sync)
  3. Use 'Explore' to browse the unit
  4. Go to the following folder depending on device:
    • MyGuide: \Flash Disk\MyGuide\POI\SPEEDCAM
    • iGO 8: \Storage Card\iGO8\CONTENT\speedcam
    • Binatone: \Flash Disk\igo\poi\speedcam
    • Alpine: \Alpine\content\speedcam
  5. Remove any files currently in this folder such as SpeedCam.spdb, SpeedCamUpdates.spdb and PGPSW text files
  6. Copy the extracted .txt files to this folder (excluding 'release.txt' and 'license.txt')
  7. You may need to 'soft reset' the unit (e.g. Alpine: press the 'RESET' button)
  8. On first relaunch it may take a while to load as it updates the internal database.

Activating Pocket GPS Safety Camera Database (MyGuide)

 

  1. Activate the speed camera database through the following menu commands:
    • Settings
    • General Settings
    • Speed Warning Options / Alerts
    • Enable Safety Cameras
  2. Ensure sounds are active:
    • Settings
    • Sound
    • Activate 'Master' and 'Voice' and set sliders towards the right
  3. On the Map view ensure the speaker icon is showing without a cross

 

Activating Pocket GPS Safety Camera Database (iGO 8)

 

  1. Activate the speed camera database through the following menu commands:
    • Settings
    • Warnings
    • Speed Camera Warning (TICK)

 

Activating Pocket GPS Safety Camera Database (Binatone)

 

  1. Activate the speed camera database through the following menu commands:
    • Settings
    • General Settings
    • Alerts
    • Enable Safety Cameras
  2. Ensure sounds are active:
    • Settings
    • Sound
    • Activate 'Master' and 'Voice' and set sliders towards the right
  3. On the Map view ensure the speaker icon is showing without a cross

 

Activating Pocket GPS Safety Camera Database (Alpine)

 

  1. Activate the speed camera database through the following menu commands:
    • Navigation Menu
    • Settings
    • Warnings
    • Tick 'Speed Camera Warnings' - you may need a GPS fix for this option to display
    • Press the '...' button next to the Speed Camera Warnings
    • Enable 'Audible Warning' as 'While approaching'
    • Set the 'Visible Warning' to 'On'
