Installation

Prior to installing please check that you are running the correct version of TomTom Navigator.

The steps to a successful installation are:

  1. Download the POICapture.CAB file and save it on a folder on your PC.
  2. Copy the POICapture.CAB file to the root of your storage card.
  3. Use the PocketPC File Explorer to run the POICapture.CAB file

The POICapture.CAB file will create the following folders, if the folders do not already exist:

  • My Pocket PC\TomTom\SdkRegistry
  • My Pocket PC\Program Files\POICapture

The POICapture.CAB file will then place the following files into the following folders:

My Pocket PC\TomTom\SdkRegistry

POICapture.bmp

POICapture.cap

TomTom.mnu

The TomTom.mnu is a custom menu for TomTom. The POI Capture TomTom.mnu is based closely on the standard menu. In the POI Capture TomTom.mnu, there is an extra (fourth) page in the main menu. The TomTom Traffic icon on page one has been replaced with the POI Capture icon. The fourth page has the TomTom Traffic icon and other useful icons.

NB if you are already using a custom menu, the installation process for POI Capture will not over write it, i.e. this only installs if no TomTom.mnu exists. So if you want it, make sure that you erase the existing one TomTom.mnu.

Configuration

There are some configuration settings for the POICapture TomTom Navigator add on. these let you determine the default actions of the application.

Tapping the Preferences button on the “Select camera direction:” screen activates the configuration menu, but to get to that screen a POI type and Speed must be selected.

Three options are available on the configuration screen, Turn timer on/off, Clear cameras and Rotate screen.

The Start over button is used to return to the “Select POI type (1/2)” screen and the Cancel button returns to the Navigation screen. Using either of these exit routes will set the selected timer and screen options.

After tapping the Clear cameras button you will be asked to confirm that you want to delete all of the POI stored in the file ? Tap No if you want to keep the stored data, otherwise tap Yes. A status message will be flashed at the top of the navigation screen; this will either be ‘PocketGPScameras’ deleted or, if the file did not exist, Failed to delete … PocketGPScameras.ov2 where … is the path to map currently in use.

If the Rotate screen button is used then the equivalent TomTom Navigator button must also be used to synchronize the two displays. The Navigator button can be accessed using the following sequence of screen taps from the Main Menu 1 of 4 screen:

Change preferences >

Next screen >

Next screen >
