My two cents for the design of the mount (if Mr. Chang is watching):
It may be a mistake to build the transformer within the mount, which may be the cause of the PDA/mount getting hot. Unless something inside (e.g. speaker/amplifier) needs 12v, it is much better to leave out any transformer circuit and just feed 5v into the mount with the almost universal 4.0/1.7 DC input that so many PDAs are using. 5v car adapter is almost universal so a replacement is readily available. Also you can use the AC adapter from your PDA at home. Some PDA may need more than 5v, if you provide a car adapter with 5.2-5.3v that should be able to take care of almost all PDAs on the market.
May be they were trying to build a circuit inside so that it can output more current to power/charge the PDA/speaker and external GPS. But I do not think that is necessary. 800mA that most car adapters can produce should be enough. It may not be able to charge the PDA quickly, but the PDA does not need charging quickly when in used. It just needs enough to power it up. _________________ Pc-Mobile

I think the rationale was more to provide the option for a direct hard wiring into the car's power system. The conversion from 12V to 5V has to happen somewhere - either in the mount or in a box that has the same function as the cigarette lighter adapter. _________________ Lutz

You must be right. I forgot the hardwiring option.
I still think it not wise to build the transformer inside the mount and there are ways to overcome the hardwiring ruote. _________________ Pc-Mobile

Just to add my comment, I have the 4150 version of this mount and I am very dissapointed. If I plug up my TomTom GPS, place my iPAQ in the mount, plug up to my cigar lighter socket switch on the car engine and turn on the iPAQ all is fine.
As soon as I open TomTom Navigator V3 my iPAQ stops charging.
I can drive for about 45mins then I lose battery on the iPAQ. I have turned off all wireless lan and bluetooth and reduced the backlight power, but to no avail. I have tried the Seidio in my freinds car (who has a tomtom mount) and its the same but if I fit my 4150 in his mount it all works fine. Any suggestions before I bin it!!!

Are you sure you are using the 12 V passthrough cigarette lighter adapter? Maybe there's not enough Voltage arriving at the device, and the GPS receiver actually gets it's power from your iPAQ _________________ Lutz
I have the kit fitted in a Volvo. My freinds car is a Renault and its the same in his. Just to extend my earlier post, sometimes the charge light does come on on the iPAQ when I first set it up and start driving but it flickers irregularley and after at the most 5 minutes it goes off. Its as if there is just enough current when everythings cold but as things warm up the current drops off and the iPAQ stops charging. If I close down the tomtom program so that the iPAQ is still on and the GPS reciever is still plugged but no prog is running it charges.
I too was very disappointed with my mount. I was ready to bin it. Due to speaker problem, bluetooth clip-on not charging.
A few complaints to Seidio and it was replaced. This is the new version of the mount and I have to say it's much better then the previous one. Everything charges ok, no speaker inteference problem, volume works properly and much cleaner sound.
At first I was very disappointed with the mount and evenmore so with the customer service. But eventually they got their act together and sent me a new version mount ASAP :D :D

Further to my ealier e-mail. You have written in your e-mail the following "The pedestals are the same as the old mount except the Console Windshield Attachment, so we would ship the new cradle and the Console Windshield Attachment but not the other pedestals." .
What are the the OTHER PEDESTALS that you will not ship..
Thank you again
Yours

Dear Sir,
The cradle is totally different from the old one. The new price includes VAT. The price that we can offer you for the cradle of G2100S or cradle of
G2500 is the difference between what you paid and the new price :
- For G2100S: ($68.92 - $59.95) + VAT (16%) = $10.41
- For G2500: ($126.68 - $59.95) + VAT (16%) = $77.41
The pedestals are the same as the old mount except the Console Windshield Attachment, so we would ship the new cradle and the Console Windshield Attachment but not the other pedestals.
We donآ´t have G2500 cradle for XDA II yet but we are going to have it soon.
Best regards,
Seidio-Europe RMA Dept.

Dear Sir,
Thank you for your e.mail.
I see that your prices have increased alot(from $59 to 79.99 for Seidio G2100S Car Kit -with no speaker- and $146.95 for the Seidio G2500 GPS Car Kit !!!!!)!!!
- So for how much you would sell G2100S for me including the P&P.
- How long is the warranty on this item.. One of the main problems I had with the Multi-function Mount( when it works)is equing of voice when using the hans free phone, is this still aproblem with the G2500.
Looking forward to hear from you asap.
Thanks again
Yours Dr H Azzam
