The variable speed cameras are located on the edge of Leicestershire near Catthorpe, on the south bound carriageway of the 'smart motorway', from J19 to J16 to Northampton.
The cameras will be operational and fines will be issued to speeding drivers whether there is a variable speed limit flagged up or not.
A Highways England spokesman commented: "With the bulk of the work now complete, the full route between junctions 19 and 16 is now operating at speeds of up to 70mph and has an extra lane in both directions to provide more capacity, new overhead signage and signals to give drivers more information, and variable speed limits which will help to smooth traffic flows.
They added: "The final phase of works is to carry out resurfacing at junction 19 and essential repair work to maintain the bridge joints on the River Avon viaduct, to ensure that drivers continue to have safe and reliable journeys. This work will be undertaken between now and April, at night, when the road is at its quietest."
Smart motorways help ease congestion and therefore improve overall journey times.

If it's not all about revenue generation and it is really all about safer roads/ driving, why are specs cameras not being fitted to these gantries instead of single point cameras? Surely it must be possible to vary the limits on them too?
Specs keep the traffic flowing much better than the shoot off, brake for the camera addicts that are out there.
