There were several map updates on my android phone today, including HERE. Would that suggest there's a Garmin map update in the near future? |

Maybe they are recalibrating in response to the complaints about silly slower B road routeing/diversions only to then bring you back to the main drag.

Yeah. Dream on. They have been like that for years, had an inordinate amount of bad press about it and don't seem to have taken any notice.
I can't get my head around why folks keep on about 'latest maps' when they really should be banging on about crap routeing to Garmin. |

Agree, Garmin's routing is a little flakey.
When I run a TomTom against a Garmin, the TomTom almost always picks a better route than the Garmin, i.e. a more sensible route with less changing of roads (off main road and back again) and less right hand turns (this is for the UK, where we drive on the left).
I think that this is not due to maps, it's more likely to do with historical routing data. TomTom's IQ Routes, based on actual average speed data rather than permitted speed limits, seems more extensive across the country than Garmin's equivalent (which I've forgotten the name of).
Also, TomTom's traffic is better than Inrix which is used by Garmin.
