Hi,

I recently acquired a Mercedes GLA April 2016 reg in the UK.

The spec sheet says that it's NTG5.5 and I know it's got Comand Online.

Without an sd card, the gps informs of the speed limit on each road which is very handy and very useful. However I would like to know about the cameras on the roads too.

I bought an sd card, made sure it's formatted as FAT32 and created a folder called PersonalPOI.

Now, whatever gpx file(s) I put on the card doesn't seem to work.

When I go into Options - Personal POI, there's a message 'Importing data, process may take several minutes', but that doesn't go away even if I wait for 5 minutes or more.

Am I doing something wrong?

Do you need more information? Is GPX even the right format for Mercedes Benz Comand Online systems?

I read many posts which have confused me even further.

Do you need a POILoader from Garmin? Or this MB app that someone's created?

Clarifications on these would make my life easier :-)

There are already a few threads on the go here about Merc GPX/GPI queries.

Including the one in which kkudi's request is the latest post.

Have you just tried one .gpx file? As in your other post you imply several.
The info available here is a bit obscure because the 'experts' here do not have your system, and those that claim to have loaded them are a bit vague about it.

Be careful using them as the difinative data on speed limit, as they are frequently out of date. i.e. WRONG.

The ones I downloaded have at least 10 gpx files, the entire fodler size is no more than 3 megs.

This is the thing - i dont understand which gpx file to use. I have Camera.gpx, I have Camera_40mph.gpx with 40, 60, 30 and 20 too.

Seems to suggest that each file correponds to camera locations for a particular speed limit.

Not sure why all would not be combined into one gpx file.

Maybe where I downloaded and paid for, doesn't seem to work.

I have tried with only one gpx file too though - a random one from the ones downloaded, and a separate one (free) I've found in an A class forum , none of which have worked

That is useful info. Now we have to find out whether it's the format of the .GPX file or the loading 'mechanism' that's stopping things, as it obviously isn't having multiple .GPXs.

Presumably you are going to stick to this thread now?

yes of course - no need to add the same thing to another thread - unless there's a better section elsewhere in the forum, which this thread can be moved into?

I could be wrong, but, Garmin units read in and use a single GPI file that is created from GPX files (or CSV files) using POILoader.

I've never known any Garmin unit or Garmin based manufacturer unit using raw GPX files.

Reading what I have it looks to me that the SD card just needs a specific folder, named correctly, capitalised correctly, and with a POILoader created GPI file in it.

so do Mercedes Comand Online systems expect GPI or GPX files?

We don't know because we haven't got your car. But 'we' believe it is Garmin based so just guessing really based on stuff acquired from other threads. Try a GPI file created from a .GPX file by POILoader and see if that works. Just try one .GPX file to start with.

ok great I will give this a shot this evening and come back to you guys. Really appreciate the problem solving efforts!

Just one last question...whatever POI Loader generates...should I stick the raw GPI file it generates? or the entire hierarchy? I believe it generates a folder or some hierarchy of directories with the end result somewhere in there.

I guess no harm in trying both ways.

Who knows? With a Garmin Nav device, POILoader loads stuff directly onto the device.
I said we are guessing and your guess is probably as good as ours (without wading through a load of posts to see what others say, but you could do that just as well as 'us'.) Very Happy

Just the GPI, single file.

What POILoader does, if the data is correct, is matches up GPX or CSV with a BMP icon and a WAV sound file.

Plenty of threads here about that, lookup my 'spoon feed' post for the data structure.

Then put the resultant GPI where Merc reckon it should be.

Would it be an advantage if we gave him a single set of files that are known to work with Garmin K?
How about a single GPX created with CSV-GPX converter with associated BMP and WAV files? If that doesn't work, a known good CSV and associated files?

I successfully converted a gpx file into a gpi using POILoader on a Mac.

I got the gpi file and put it under a folder called PersonalPOI on my sd card.

Still same issue, stuck at loading data (process may take several minutes).

From where did you obtain the GPX file?
