Hi all, I'm not sure what the system is called but in my wife's new golf her sat nav shows the speed limit for any given road she's on, and display's an icon in the top left corner, as you change roads so the speed limit icon updates. VERY useful addition to the sat nav. Does anybody have this as POI's as I cant find anything onsite. Smile

Hi duffy522,
Usually, road speed detail is hard coded into the map information.

To have every road as a POI is an awful lot of POI's, ineffectual and would probably crash the SatNAv if you tried.

To update road speeds, I'm guessing that you would need to update the map.

Regardless of numbers, I think the main issue would be that most SatNav's don't take direction into account. If you were driving along a 60mph main road then you would get every single 30/20mph side road beeping at you - it'd be very confusing.

This might be Sign Assist, where a camera reads the signs as you drive along. But I would have thought there was a chance it could miss badly placed or obscured signs.

But then again, it might not be Sign Assist. The Golf brochure describes what appears to be a different feature called Traffic Sign Display. To quote the brochure

"Traffic Sign Display uses preloaded data stored within the Golf's navigation system to advise you of speed restrictions on the road ahead. If traffic signs for the route you are currently travelling along are included in the data, they will be displayed in the map view."

So that would be dependent on how up to date and accurate the map data is. The VW system uses Navteq maps but if TomTom speed limit data is anything to go by, that could be dodgy.

I happen to have a brochure because I have a new Golf on order, due in March.
