|
|
Just purchased the Garmin Nuvi 3598lmt-d sat nav to replace my old Tom Tom 700 and having problems getting the speed camera POI's to work.
I have downloaded them in speed zoned complete with mp3 voices (tried .wav but the Garmin POI loader does not convert them and gives me error messages) and I can see them on the Garmin under Custom POI,s.
I can barley see the icons on the map (very small in comparison to the built in POI.s and get no voice alert when nearing or passing a speed camera site just a ding and a message on screen. Garmin safety cameras are unchecked.
I have tried the manual option on the POI loader and set the speed to 0 so you do not have to be breaking the speed limit for them to activate.
Any ideas how I can get the supplied voice alerts to work? |

There is a 21 page thread on the 3598 HERE You will possibly find an answer in there. |

You also need to copy a file called 'sox.exe' into your POILoader directory as this will convert the wav files so you hear voice alerts rather than the 'bongs'. You'll need an old version of sox.exe as newer ones don't work. _________________ DriveLuxe 51 LMT D - Firmware 6.80

How did you set the speed to zero?
POILoader uses the filename numbers to determine the speed. As above there are loads of posts in here regarding how to get the PGPSW cameras working. As far as icons go you can go up to 24x24 on Garmins (default is 22x22).
Stick with it because once you've cracked it subsequent updates are a doddle. _________________ DashCam:

Chopsie, I also recently bought a 3598LMT-D and similarly found that my POI icons are mostly too small to be useful, particularly the speed icons. I modified the speed icon size from the standard 22 x 22 to 44 x 44, which I find most suitable. I didn't check how large to icons can be set, but certainly they do work at 44 x 44. I think I used paint.net, or possibly XnView, to accomplish the adjustment. _________________ Dabri.

I'd be interested to see a screenshot of the 44x44 as my 24x24 look fine on my 2599 _________________ DashCam:

Kremmen, I now have a view of a 44 x 44 speed icon on my 3598. For comparison, also a few other standard 22 x 22 icons, and one Garmin icon. Unfortunately, I am unable to insert it. I don't understand the http://image_url instruction. Any help would be appreciated. [/img] _________________ Dabri.

You need to upload the image to a web service, e.g. Photobucket. Once you have a URL for the image, enclose it in the image markers, as shown below. E.g. :
Code: | |
would give you

When you install the cameras via POILoader there needs to be a triple set of files for each camera type. As an example:
Gatso30.csv (or GPX if you have used a converter)
Gatso30.bmp
Gatso30.wav
What POILoader does is match the filename prefix, before the stop, and uses the data within the csv to move the camera to its correct map position, associates it with the picture BMP file and associates the sound WAV file providing POILoader has SOX.exe in it's folder. _________________ DashCam:

My initial attempt to display a screen print of 3598 using an 44 x 44 icon, 22 x 22 icons, and a Garmin icon is shown below. It displays on my PC, but not as a preview on this site. Does the image have to be a gif?

No
You need to upload the .jpg to a site like photobucket and link to that. Bit of a chore but like the cameras, once you've cracked it it's simple.
I'll see if I can show your picture...............
........done
What size screen do you have?
My only other comment is that I would be using one of the camera sets from here. That 30mph icon with most of it depicting a camera doesn't make for easy speed identification IMO. _________________ DashCam:

Kremmen, Thanks for the image. My (3598) screen size is 5". The speed limit icons are all taken from this site. This one is an unconfirmed mobile. _________________ Dabri.

It's a PGPSW camera icon that shows the location of a camera and its trapping speed. Proper speed limit info, as provided by roadside speed limit signs, is provided by the map (if your device shows them). PGPSW database does not provide speed limit data, just camera data including the trap speed.
Is that one of your 44x44 icons? |

I shall try to create a screen image with a speed limit for you; although that was not clear to me from your post. Would you be able to copy it to here if I provide the address - like last time? I have not yet managed to produce an image from the Photobucket site. BTW the camera warning icon is 44 x 44. _________________ Dabri.

I was not saying that your device does not display road speed limits. Mine does and puts up a circle with the current speed limit in it (whenever it has the data). The speed limit data comes from the map (not PGPSW speedcam database). The indicated speed limit on my device however is not necessarily up to date and could lull you into a false sense of security so it's as well to look out of the window for those well known circular signs with numbers on them alongside the road (usually both sides)
Calling the PGPSW camera icons 'speed limit icons' could lead to confusion as to whether you are talking about the speed at which the camera traps, or the legal road speed limit as indicated by the road signs mentioned above, or lampposts being less than 200yards apart (30mph unless signposted otherwise and with repeaters). |
