You should be able to try it out in your armchair.

Something like Settings ... Navigation ... Demo Mode.

Then Where to? and choose a destination for your demo trip.

Good news molerat. I'm always pleased to help.

For the benefit of new readers, I can say that on my Garmin device, in Settings - Language - Voice, I can now select at will between voices (British English Kate, Serena or James etc) for navigational directions, or Silence so as to hear just my camera warnings and nothing else.
In this way I can follow a route on the screen and I can see any Traffic info along that route, but I do not have to suffer the repetitive spoken directions.
