They've never bothered to sort it out because a) it was an undocumented feature originally used for testing, and b) because they created ANOTHER method of assigning sounds which is arguably more logical.

The "normal" way of doing the PGPSW camera sounds is to add them to the map folder and to have the name the same as the .ov2 file they need to match. The audio files also MUST be in .ogg format.

But TT's preferred method is to add any new sounds you want to use to the "sounds" folder (in .ogg or .wav format).
They can be named anything you like and they will then appear in the standard sound effects menu, where you can pick the one you want and it WILL be heard when you're asked "is this the one you want to use".

PGPSW decided to stick with the original method of doing it, because it was one or two less screen taps when doing the set up, but it's something we have had to explain over and over ever since!
