Hi all
I was thinking of upgrading to a go500.
Does anyone know if I can still download the silent voice and then still be able to listen to the speed camera alerts on this device? |

Whos speedcamera alerts? TT's? Certainly not PgpsW's. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

Dave, I searched for your previous posts and I see your progress has been GO700, Start 20 and now the new GO500. Of those, the 700 was the very best and the new 500 is the worst. I'm afraid the words "upgrade" and "New GO 500" just don't go together. You seem to be committed to a downward spiral, I'm afraid.
TomTom's latest offerings are pretty much untouchable by you - you can't add anything like POIs and you can't look at the files on the device. I haven't heard of a silent voice obtainable from TomTom, only from PGPSW. But I doubt if the device allows you to even add any new voices. On some devices, you can turn off navigation voice instructions and you'd still get camera warnings. But the TT warnings are just a selection of bleeps with no verbal descriptions of cameras, like the PGPSW warnings _________________ Dennis

Thanks for your reply DennisN
My latest tt is an XXL which in some ways I am happy with but the TMS/Traffic is very hit and miss.
I am looking for a unit with better traffic updates.
I thought maybe the 500 or 600 would be better for this.
I really cant be doing with the "turn left here turn right there" malarky hence the silent voice but still need speed camera alerts.
Any advice would be great. |

I think you may be able to turn off the navigation voice.
The HD Traffic is quite good.
The TomTom cameras and alerts are very poor.
Both those are my personal opinions - maybe other people will disagree. _________________ Dennis

Confirmed.
You can turn the navigation voice off using an icon next to the main volume slider below the main menu.
If you have set up to hear warnings, they will still sound.
But to the OP.... do your research carefully, a lot of people would ague that these new models are not an "upgrade" in many ways. _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |

Thanks I have decided not to go for the 500.
Still doing a bit of research on this and it would seem the 1005 maybe the way to go. |
