I have a TomTom GO530. (Fondly called 'Natalie')

Having bought a new car with a Sat Nav that is nowhere as good, I decided to plumb 'Natalie' into the new car.

I do believe that i must have got the power leads the wrong way round, as I now have a dead 'Natalie'.

Internally there seems to be no protective diode, nor fuse.

Has anyone else done the same and got the SatNav working again?

If so, please advise.

How do you get the power leads the wrong way round ? I hope you did not connect it up directly to 12v because if you did you have fried it. You need a 5 volt supply as fed through the TomTom, or other USB, adaptor

That's because they are in the power lead... So, as molerat says, you've likely thrown 12V into it...

He did say 'plumb in' so it looks as though it is cooked.

FWIW, when I "plumbed in" my TomTom to my last car, I embedded a "lighter socket" on a wire and put the TomTom supplied charger in that. All hidden in the back of the dash. That's how to do it if you want to hide it and keep safe.

If you plumbed her in without the TT ciggy adapter, you have shoved 12 up her jacksey, and she didn't like it up her. She's fried.

Absolutely correct.
A moment's stupidity, and one cooked SatNav.

I knew that it needed 5 volts it being Cmos technology.
A couple of weeks ago I cut off the 5v adapter and put it aside.
When I 'installed' poor Natalie, I just threw the 12v at her ... poor dead dear.
s soon as read the first reply, I knew what i had done.

I have now bought a Start 25 M, but can find no way of installing the PocketGPS camera database on it ... any ideas ... or should this be a new thread?

On the national scale of Stupids, you come up as not a big Stupid. Not compared with me - four months and 20,000 miles ago I bought a new Renault van with their super new media system which includes a TomTom satnav. That was proper big Stupid!

Was it the van or the TT that makes you a big Stupid?
