what are the colours along road

I have noticed recently that several road in my area have a coloured line along parts of the road.

they bear no relation ship to the road, Duel carriageway 70 green, urban green or brown or none, sometimes two line one either side of single carriage

Round here we only have white ones down the middle and occasional ones at the edges .......
