Just got a used TomTom XL Live GPS
All seems to be working but
When I try to run TomTom home and 'Operate my device' I get
'You cannot use this map on this device. WESTERN_AND-CENTRAL_EUROPE_2_GB-132

However, more troubling is after downloading the Database from here and the Voices, when Managing POI's and setting the distance ii asks if this is the sound I want to use. I click No and it jumps to a white page that says 'No Photos Found'

I am loading everything into the Western and Central Europe folder.
Im confused

First thing to do is to make a complete back up of your TT onto your computer using Windows Explorer or equivalent, DO NOT use TT Home to make this BAck up. Keep this safe even though it doesn't work properly. Make sure you copy over the hidden files/folders too.

I would then delete everything off of the TT, again using windows explorer. Now that you have a blank TT, conect it to TT Home and let TT Home download a fresh copy of the NavCore operating system, then add back the maps from your previous back-up.

Make a new back up using Windows Explorer. Don't delete the original back-up.

No guarantees that it shall work, but it's a step in the right direction.

Well I backed it up and deleted everything then did as you said, then reloaded the map back on and what I get now on the TT is:
Select Map.
I select the only one there and then.

'You cannot use this map on this device. WESTERN_AND-CENTRAL_EUROPE_2_GB-132

Did you update the application on this new (used) device? And, also, where did you get the device from? Was it ebay, by any chance?

OK Managed to get it back to the position I was in at the start.
The actual GPS works fine
I just cant seem to find the folder to put the speedcams sounds into because at the moment there is no sound at all, yet when I got to the other POI's I can change the sounds of them and the sounds work.

It would seem that the speedcams must store the sounds somewhere other than the map source folder

As mentioned in the installation guide here

Quote:
5.Note: You will be asked to choose a sound but will not be offered any options, this is normal. You will be asked 'Is this the sound you want?'. You should answer Yes on this screen. If you do, you will then see the warning distance screen and can proceed as normal.

If you mistakenly answer No then you may get a message saying No Photographs and the unit will freeze. If you have mistakenly done this, simply reset the device and start again, this time answering Yes when prompted.

IIRC the TomTom automagically pairs the POI file and the Voice file with the same names hence this stage of the process seems a bit funny. Just follow the guide above and all will be well.

And when you say Map Folder what is the name of the folder?

It should be the Western and Central Europe folder. I.e. the one that holds your map and not a folder called "Map"

OK. Its working !
I gave up last night and this morning borrowed a friends identical GPS Unit just to take a look.
I downloaded all his OS and files onto my computer and compared them with mine but still no Joy.

I then again followed the original instructions I was given about downloading all files to my computer again and then letting Home reinstall the OS.
I loaded the maps back on but still no joy.
Then I erased all the files not in folders from the Unit and loaded the ones I had downloaded earlier from my unit.
Unit now working

Loaded the Speed Zoned camera warnings into the Map Folder and then Vicki Archers Speed Zoned Camera Voices in the Sounds folder and Hey presto. If the Speed Cam voices are loaded into the Maps folder they dont show up and dont work. They have to be loaded into the Sounds Folder.

Thanks all for the advice and tips.

If the voices are named correctly (i.e. EXACTLY the same as the speed cam files) then they will work when put in the map folder. In that situation, they are automatically assigned to the correct camera file so you don't get to choose them yourself.
If you put them in the sounds folder, then they can have any name you like, but you then have to select them manually during the settings process.
