I have just bought a handheld garmin gps unit...GPS 60 navigator (marine pack) to be precise.
A friend of mine has a garmin topo map of australia and I naively thought it would work for me, if I bought a gps unit.
Theres nothing wrong with the software, but the model I have has no expansion slot to take a micro sd card
I believe that a 'garmin gps 60' can use this but its not the gps 60 model I bought...
I bought it 'clearance item' and thus no return / refund.
I have downloaded and installed basecamp but cannot find a way to attempt installation...Have I bought 'a brick' or is there a workaround?
Any help or advice would be really appreciated

Not sure whether or not maps are updateable - a quick phone call to Garmin would confirm or deny: 0808 2380000

As for 'clearance item' - regardless of what they say about not being returnable your statutory right will not be affected. So if your reason for purchase was to update the maps, and there was even the slightest hint that this was possible then you can return it as 'not fit for purpose'. The onus is actually on the supplier to prove that it *is* fit for purpose and not you. So even if they say you can't return it that doesn't mean they're correct.

Anyway, I suggest giving Garmin a call and see what they say.

Basecamp isn't the right program to use with the 60, you should try Garmins Mapsource . However the map may be locked to your friends GPS so wouldn't be transferable anyway.

No one, but I was just putting 2 and 2 together and we'll see whether the answer is 4 or 5 in the fullness of time. Very Happy

I use to have one of these units and it's a non map unit.
No usb, micro card slot.
Only had a pointer, compass and trail recorder " Bread Crumb"

Loved this unit but moved up to a map version.

Hope this helps...
