Hi guys

i asked on here before about a recommendation for a garmin unit for my route 66 holiday next month.

thanks to one helpful member i have gone and got a brand new 1490t on recommendation.

what i needed it for is to load some large route files (GPX) onto my nav to help me navigate route 66, as its been replaced by alot of interstate now its impossible to navigate using a nav without the gpx files a nice chap on the web build and uploaded.

anyway, i have 8 files in total, divided by states, the first state file is 298 miles and 1436 waypoints, i have tried loading the file into the nav but it claims it has too many waypoint, which i kinda expected.

now i know i can reduce the amount of waypoints using software like tyre but is there any other ways around it? and can anyone confirm the max waypoints per gpx for the 1490T? i read 100 somewhere, is there anyway to enlarge this.

i am quite computer savvy so if there is a complicated method, please lay it on me.

Thanks guys

Rich

It's difficult to see why so many waypoints are required. I'd try loading the routes into Garmin's Basecamp program and see what can be done to reduce them and/or split the routes into even more manageable chunks.

Thanks

already come to that conclusion Laughing Out Loud

i have converted them in gpxbabel and converted waypoints to route and it comes out with 346 waypoints which is still to many, so split it down into 4 files which are about 3 hours driving each

so not a big problem changing files every 3 hours
