Live services for tomtom live devices now cost between £28.50 and £55.00 dependant on which device you wish to load them onto
Sony xnv £28.50 1 year Europe
XL live regional £47.50 1 year UK only
Mazda nva 8110 SD £55.00 1 year Europe

How Do tomtom justify the price difference for an identical service

It's marketing. They cover different devices serving very different markets with differing numbers of potential customers and differing demographics.
TomTom doesn't have to justify the price difference; if a customer has a particular device and wants Live Services then they can't go anywhere else (TomTom know this...) and the customer either chooses to pay or not. |

So if you own a light bulb, you pay most? |

Why is the 550 not in the list of available devices? _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

They don't have to justify prices, TomTom is a business not a social service and they can charge what they like. TomTom will structure the pricing in the way that they think will maximise their overall profits.
What is often overlooked is that some Live Services will need network charges included and some not. Some may have a premium paid on the purchase of the device that covers part of the cost of the Live Services. There may also be agreements on pricing when a manufacturer agrees to produce a certain number of devices that will use Live Services. _________________ Drivelux |

But when I come to renew Live Services on my 550, which is running them quite happily now, I don't want TomTom to tell me they aren't available for my device. If I renewed via tat web page, this may well happen. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

If you use that web page and try the thingy about identifying your device, your first two characters of your serial number (W3) will give the result GO 550 Live / GO 750 Live 1GB.
I didn't bother commenting previously (because I honestly believed you were being sarcastic), but this is a typical example of TomTom's shoddy work in these matters - quite simply, somebody forgot to include GO550 in the listing. It's on a par with them listing the same devices multiple times and omitting the odd one completely in compatibilty tables.
A rather more relevant omission from that page perhaps is in the content of Live Services - it doesn't mention Fuel Prices (even though they are not worth selling!). _________________ Dennis

Maybe, but they've also got Speed Cameras and Search and Go, which are of similar value. _________________ Dennis

I couldn't really let this go. An identical service would be my preference - identical, that is, to the service I bought in the first place, namely HD Traffic for the whole of my journey and Google Local Search which found stuff. For those two, I'd put up with (and indeed did) the other non services. Unfortunately TomTom are still charging the same price for the strangled service as they charged for it when it was genuinely useful. _________________ Dennis
