I've just found the following article indicating that all fixed speed cameras in the West Midlands (Wolverhampton, Sandwell, Dudley, Walsall, Birmingham, Solihull and Coventry council areas) will be switched off from next April.

This has been reported in several local newspapers as well. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

Mr Clinton wrote: | speed cameras helped to save lives because speeding "significantly" increases the risk of an accident happening.
He added that reducing the number of cameras might also lead to a fall in the numbers of motorists taking speed awareness courses "that help them to avoid speeding in the future". | but he didn't add Quote: | which in turn will lead to a loss of revenue from said speed awareness courses. | so I did it for him |

To be fair, as head of RoSPA, Mr Clinton probably isn't over-concerned with the amount of revenue these courses generate. _________________ Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMT-D |

They did this elsewhere and then turned them all back on again if I recall correctly...

I read this as "it's expensive to upgrade the cameras to digital and we can also save on maintenance if we leave them alone and set up more mobile sites".
It's also cheaper not to take the cameras out and just leave them as non-working deterrents. _________________ Gerry
